Email Thing

Hi, welcome to my Email Thing, a mentorship program conducted via email.

This is how it works: For SGD$200, you can send me three emails. In each of these emails, you can ask me a couple of questions about anything regarding creative work, photography, how to build a successful freelance creative practice, my creative/photography processes, writing, community-building, libraries, activating spaces, and anything else you think I might be able to offer valuable input on. I’ll reply specific to your situation, so please include your background/context and whatever else you think I might need to know.

I believe I am good at:
– Adopting the necessary mindsets to make things and creative projects happen;
– Finding new pathways amidst unpredictable situations;
– Building things without fear of failure;
– Distilling and finding clarity that leads to creative fulfillment;
– Rallying communities and bringing people together;
– Combining creativity with monetary profit;
– Inspiring optimism.

I can probably help you to:
– Find hope in a seemingly hopeless situation;
– Come up with concrete steps to move forward if you are stuck in your freelance creative career;
– Think of ways you can connect deeply and authentically with your audience/community;
– Find new approaches to “personal branding” + help you market yourself honestly and effectively;
– Send you really good book and music recommendations;
– Connect you with people and resources;
– Break out of limiting mindsets;
– Find an unconventional path towards both making money and being creative.

This is an experimental thing that will shape-shift in nature and price over time and will likely not last forever.

HOW IT WORKS:

Up to five slots are available each week.

All you need to do is send a first email to rebeccatoh[at]pm.me with your question(s). Remember to include your background/context and whatever else you think I might need to know.

I will send you a payment link within 48 hours of receiving your email. Once you have made payment, we will begin this Email Thing. More instructions will be found in the email.

If you don’t hear back from me within 48 hours, it means all five slots for the week have been taken up. You can then expect to hear from me the next week or when I reach you on the list.

I offer a money-back guarantee if you find the emails entirely unhelpful. No questions asked and no justification needed. This is based on trust and faith that it won’t be abused.

After you have received my first reply, you can follow up with two other emails at any other time. There is no expiry date to the emails.

MY BIOGRAPHY:

I am a photographer who works around the world. I also write and am the accidental founder of a shared community library in Singapore.

Some of the things I’ve done in my life: Dropped out of university (4 times), started a cafe, published an independent magazine, started a bag brand inspired by Jack Kerouac, hosted a show on a national radio station for two years, wrote a column for a national newspaper in Singapore, built a successful freelance photography career, exhibited my photography work in New York, built Singapore’s first shared community library, gave a TEDx talk.

I am currently working on building a co-dreaming space and a school for the new world.

SAMPLE EMAILS:

I will eventually have samples for you. For now, read my blog.

FAQ:

Why email rather than calls/Zoom/in-person sessions?
I prefer the medium of writing. It has the benefit of not being so immediate, which gives each of us time to clarify our thoughts. There is greater space in which to reflect and to cut through the messiness of unclear thinking. Also great for introverts.

Can I really ask you about ANYTHING?
You can ask me anything to do with creative work and creative vocation, and how I can help you work towards living life and doing creative work on your own terms. You can even ask me to give you a photography lesson. These are my areas of expertise, I want to believe. But I’m not a therapist or life coach and won’t be able to help with larger questions revolving around trauma, relationships, and so on. I do have other experts in these areas I can refer you to =)

How long will your responses be?
I imagine the responses don’t have to be long in order to be useful/helpful, but they will be as long as they need to be. And don’t worry, I won’t be sending you one-liners. I consider this Email Thing a kind of mentorship and will want to be as thoughtful and helpful as possible in my responses, so they can help you move forward meaningfully and tangibly. I don’t want to waste both of our time.
